Meet The Farmers

Updated: Mar 7

Bradish Johnson founded Protea Gardens of Maui in 1979. We are a family-owned and operated flower farm nestled high on the slopes of Haleakala Crater on the beautiful island of Maui. With a history of hybridization and propagation experiments in our nurseries, we have an extensive variety of beautiful protea available. Due to our unique micro-climate, found few places in the world, we can grow the finest Protea in the Western Hemisphere. The inveterate plantsman, Bradish is currently living in and working on habitat reforestation projects in Madagascar.

Gregory Johnson specializes in large infrastructure projects on the farm. If it involves a backhoe and moving dirt around, he's in his happy place. His knowledge of proteas and their growing requirements is extensive, and with his degree in agriculture from Washington State University, he is well suited as the Farm Manager. If you need consulting on your protea planting projects, reach out to Greg.

Leilani Johnson is like a kolea bird who flies in from the Pacific Northwest to work on the farm in the wintertime when the blooms are at their peak. She specializes in sales, marketing, and communications. When not farming, she can be found writing, reading, and making art.

Brad Johnson is the undisputed king of quality control, ensuring the blooms we harvest and ship out are perfect. He loves to mow, and can pack a box like nobody's business. An avid surfer and snowboarder, he enjoys spending time in nature and creating fine woodworking pieces when not busy on the farm.
